One of the centerpieces of the shop is Chef Mendes’ homemade sourdough bread, made from organic flour from Central Milling in Petaluma, CA and freshly baked the restaurant’s MIWE bread oven. “I really honed in on baking during the pandemic and wanted to share my life-long passion for bread with our guests,” says Mendes. “Some of my earliest childhood memories are eating toasted Portuguese bread with butter. Bread is the most basic item, but really can showcase a menu.”
In addition, the Provisions shop will also include butter from Cowbella Creamery in Jefferson, NY (also served in the restaurant), a variety of olive oils ranging from light and herbaceous to peppery and rustic, sea salts, Portuguese egg custard tarts (pastéis de nata) and Chef Mendes’ cookbook, My Portugal.
